Youth Mental Health First Aid Training to Be Offered

SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG)  |  By San Juan Unified School District

SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - The district is offering a free Youth Mental Health First Aid training to all district staff, parents and the adult community on Saturday, June 23 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the district office, located at 3738 Walnut Avenue in Carmichael.

The interactive, eight-hour course teaches adults to identify the early warning signs of mental health challenges, including substance use, in young people between the ages of 12 and 18. Participants will increase their understanding of the importance of early intervention and learn to use a five-step action plan to help adolescents who may be developing signs of a mental health challenge or experiencing a mental health crisis.

Lunch and light refreshments will be provided. Participants must attend all eight hours to receive a certificate and CEUs, if applicable. The certificate indicates you have been certified in Mental Health First Aid USA for Youth and is valid for three years.

To register, contact Gaylon Johnson, at gaylon.johnson@sanjuan.edu or at (916) 979-8611. A flier is available with additional details.
